“Zainichi Korean” man arrested for Air China bomb threat

August 10th, 2008 by James

A few days ago, a bomb threat against Air China flights caused a major disturbance in Japan:

The threat forced one of its planes bound for China to turn around and return to Japan, although inspections of the aircraft and four other Air China jets found no suspicious objects, Japanese authorities said.

A Narita airport police officer said the threat was: “We are telling Air China: Immediately suspend operations of all flights. Otherwise we will bomb the planes. We will crash the airplanes into the site of the Olympics.”

The Japanese media is now reporting that a man claiming to be a Korean resident of Japan (Zainichi Korean) has turned himself into police in Kanagawa Prefecture, admitting responsibility for the bomb threat. It has not yet been reported why the man made the bomb threat.

Dude, you miss the 自称 part? For all we know at this point it could just be some ultra-rightist nut looking to cause grief for this Zainichi community.

Other media outlets didn’t use the term 自称 in their descriptions, most notably the major TV networks. It’s possible that he’s faking it, in which case I’ll make a follow-up post about it.

Normally the cops won’t give you the information to media until it has clear proof.

Hahaaaahaaaaahaaaa.

There are so many things wrong with that sentence I don’t know where to start.

Mind pointing to the ones that don’t use 自称? Currently, just glancing online, 時事, 共同, 読売, 産経, and 朝日 are all using 自称 in their articles.

I actually made the post originally based on what I saw on Fuji TV (and the thought didn’t cross my mind that somebody would pretend to be a Zainichi Korean), but I’ve since edited it to reflect your complaint.

Thanks. Wonder if the TV outlets actually had more information or what?

I see youtube already is alive with action about the event and a lovely post of a ANN News bite with a lovely posting title of “在日韓国人の糞チョン奴隷猿が爆破予告、怖くなって自供w”… *sigh* And that was with a video using 自称 (it’s 朝日, so that’s not surprising).

Well, it’s YouTube. It attracts doinks like that from everywhere, and the comments sections of most videos aren’t much better…

Yomiuri, Nikkei and Jiji have just reported that he is a zainichi Korean 李 (Lee) 賢史. However, Asahi Shimubun reported his family name as Nakagawa without reporting his nationality. “Nakagawa” is perhaps his Japanese pseudonym.

If you see on 2ch, it’s very typical of Japanese scapegoat anything negative in Japan on Zainichi Koreans although they are not the ones who commit most crimes but the qinese and Brazilians.
