Chinese think relations are good with Japan / Japanese think relations are bad with China

China’s focus on less promotion of anti-Japanese nationalism seems have led their citizens to a positive view of relations with Japan, but a focus in Japan on unsafe Chinese products has not been good news for China, according to a new survey:
Only about one-third of Japanese think the relationship between Japan and China is good in contrast to nearly 70 percent of Chinese who view the relationship positively, according to a survey conducted jointly by The Yomiuri Shimbun and a weekly magazine published by Xinhua News Agency.
The survey showed a large gap in perceptions of the bilateral ties between the people of the two nations: The Japanese are increasingly wary of China due to the country’s growing military power and the poisoning incidents involving China-made gyoza dumplings, while the Chinese are apparently influenced by their government’s change of policy to a “future-oriented” relationship with Japan in the buildup to the Beijing Olympic Games.
According to the survey, 36 percent of Japanese respondents said the Japan-China relationship was good, while 57 percent said it was bad.
In China, 67 percent said it was good and 29 percent said it was bad.
Perhaps Japanese views of China will improve if the Olympic games occur without any major incidents?
