Last Harry Potter book finally released in Japanese

One year after the original English language release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Japanese fans will finally get a chance to read the book. The Japanese language translation went on sale across the country this morning, with some book stores opening up at 5:00AM to sell the book to lines of waiting fans.

Here’s a FNN report showing some of the Japanese Harry Potter lovers getting their books:

Can’t say I’m a fan of the books, but I’m surprised by how long it took for the thing to make it over to Japan. I find the same thing often happens with movies having a lengthy delay before getting released in Japan (yeah, yeah, there’s translation / voice work to be done, but it’s still quite a long wait).

I’m too, veeeery surprised, that translation took a whole year! I just can’t believe my eyes. I love all Harry Potter books (+/-). Maybe all around people thinks, that is for children’s only (with I disagree), but I enjoyed reading whole story very much, and of course I couldn’t wait “just” 2 months, when 7′th – last translated book will be resealed in my country, so I was forced (by my self, burning with curiosity) to read in English.

I read the 7th book on the plane to Tokyo exactly a year ago. I was surprised that two people on the plane, including an air hostess interrupted my reading, to ask me if it was any good. I guess there are more fans of the series around the world than I thought.

But yeah, if I were a big Harry Potter fan in japan, I’d intensify my english studies to be able to read the book in english a whole year before anyone else in Japan, and spoil it for everyone, muhahaha :>

That’s surprising considered the vietnamese release came out october of last year and I’m pretty sure the bietnames market is a lot smaller than the japanese market

The Korean version came out a long time ago (Oct. 2007), and the result is that the translation is content-based, not calculated for emotional impact. (Koreans are “ppalli ppalli people”…meaning everything has to be done fast and now. Get it done ASAP!)

I assume the Japanese translation took longer to maintain the quality of its composition.

could be but the all 7 books in vietnamese was translated by one person so the emotional impact imo is pretty accurate(i read the english version first). The only thing I dislike about the translation is that they screwed up all the spell name.

Can anyone give me any information about how to get in touch with agent, or bookseller, or info on how books are distributed (and translated) in Japan?
