In a country that has 10 times the screen volume of Japan and three times the population. And yet we are to believe the number? This kind of number would make it seem like every single screen in Japan was completely sold out and only playing Ponyo all weekend. And even still that wouldn't hit it. I'm as big as a Miyazaki fan as the next dude, but that number needs a serious audit if they're going to simply toss it out there... I enjoyed it a lot, but compared to most of his other films, this one felt very much more geared towards children. But in a way that was good for me as it meant I could understand most of the Japanese no problem ;-) Definitely worth a watch. And I especially liked the hand-drawn scenery, which felt unusual what with CG everywhere these days. I saw it last night in Nagano.
