Thai Bakemono
This is a Thai commercial, so if you are some kind of Japan-only purist I suggest scrolling to the next post, but I thought there was some interesting similarities between these Thai “ghosts” and Japanese bakemono. Bakemono seem to have their roots in animistic Shinto beliefs, occasionally modified by or adopting outside ideas, such as Chinese monsters and Buddhism (you can find out scads at The Obakemono Project). So I am wondering if Thai monsters may have similar origins in sprite-like monsters and neglected objects and animals. If you know anything, enlighten us via a comment!
