Andy Ologun catches pervert

Bobby Ologun’s brother Andy made the news for apprehending a pervert on the Yamanote line:
The incident occurred on July 6th. Andy noticed a suspicious man on the train who kept placing his foot under the skirt of a woman, and confronted the man after spotting a shoe camera. He turned the man over to police at Harajuku Station.
Andy told the press that he was able to catch the man because he was African – and thus had good eyesight….

What?, I didn’t get but I laughed.
Haha, first time I heard of this theory. He was even amused when he said it. Nonetheless, thumds up to him for the good deed.
This notion of African’s having good eyes has been in the media at least a couple times before. I’m sure there was a post here a few months ago that had some guys from an African tribe spotting 2d images of cheetahs or some crazy crap from hundreds of meters away.
Maybe it is true. haha.
His Japanese is very impressive! Good on Ologun.
His Japanese is prefect. Coupled with what he has done, I am sure he has promoted a positive image of gaijin and African descendants.
At the risk of sounding like a pervert myself, I’m curious – what is the charge being filed here? Does taking pictures of someone have the same penalty as groping. How does this differ from a reporter or paparazzi taking pictures of a nude celebrity?

why are they subtitling what he is saying…
Its not uncommon for people who are the center of a story to have their words subtitled. It happens all the time as a matter of fact.
Japanese people are subtitled too.. It’s common habit on Japanese tv to subtitle what people say… It’s not anti foreigner discriminiation if that’s what you think it is.

on japanese shows, they subtitle because so that the audience knows what theyre saying
you cant expect a japanese person to know at least 20 words that has the same sound nad try to fit in the sentence
His eyes are good because he eats blueberries.
It sounds like he himself knew the “Africans have good eyes” thing was a bit silly the way he was laughing at the end.
I distinctly remember Japanese telling me about that, and saying that the reason for their good eyesight is that they have to look very far way, all the way out to their distant horizon, pretty much everyday. While in Japan, buildings and mountains and whatnot are always nearby, so they do not have to use their eyesight to its full potential.
What a well developed myth!

The myth might be true for Masai tribesman who spend their lives on open plains (http://www.japanprobe.com/?p=3087 ), but probably not for the Ologun family in Nigeria (who live in a walled compound).
