    Word going around is that there are spurious faxes being sent to offices where JETs work, purporting to be from the IRS. The faxes include requests for things such as bank account information, so don’t fall for them, and warn your JET friends to do the same!

    The real IRS talks about the problem on this page.

    The phony W-8BEN form asks the recipient for detailed personal and financial information, such as:

    * Date of birth
    * Social Security number
    * Passport number
    * Bank name
    * Account number, type and date opened
    * E-mail address
    * Profession
    * Day-time phone number
    * How often the recipient visits the U.S.
    * Information on the recipient’s spouse, children and parents
