13,000 protest USS George Washington

    About 13,000 people gathered in Yokosuka yesterday to protest the US Navy’s plan to station the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington at the naval base there.

    Here’s how TBS news reported it:

    Many of the protesters cited the recent fire on the George Washington as an example of how it might be unsafe to station a nuclear-powered carrier in Japan. In the video report above and the AP article about the protest, the people quoted do not trust the U.S. Navy’s assurances about safety.
