Tensai Bakabon hater burns banners

July 13th, 2008 by James

Several banners advertising the Akatsuka Kaikan, a museum dedicated to the manga and anime of Fujio Akatsuka, were found burned this morning along a street in Tokyo:

The burning is believed to have occurred around 1:00AM, and police are treating it as an act of arson.

What the deuce!? Who hates Tensai Bakabon? That is just crazy talk! ¥1000 says it was a drunk salaryman like the guy that was tearing up those flowers sometime ago. At any rate, whoever they are, shame on them! I was watching Tensai Bakabon just the other day using KeyHole TV. Very fun show.

I don’t think somebody hates Bakabon. And even his father(papa) is not so wacky as to burn the banner. The only culprit is Iyami, who might be jealous of Bakabon’s popularity.,

This may have something to do with the fact that Fujio Akatsuka created propaganda cartoons (for Japan) during World War II, both in Japan, and overseas in Japanese-occupied Indonesia. Akatsuka talks about this in the excellent book “Japan at War: an Oral History.”
