Tokyo tree devours metal guard rail

July 9th, 2008 by James

The above photos show a tree in Tokyo that is devouring a metal guard rail. Here’s a short news report about the tree:

It is believed that the tree must have slightly damaged itself by initially coming into contact with the metal guard rail, healing itself by accidentally growing around the metal. It is believed that the process took about 4 or 5 years, and the tree could continue to grow along the guard rail.

The tree lies in front of a sushi restaurant. Near the end of the video, the reporter samples a special sushi roll that the restaurant owner created to honor the tree – a pickled plum roll surrounded by cucumber.

Well, ONLY IN JAPAN.

To be honest – doesn’t this look slightly indecent? I’m somewhat disturbed by this sight.

it seems news in japan is as scarce as it is in australia, with the random crap they find to cover

Coming back from a hard day of work… This new made my day…Seriously I love it ! Ahaha It is so silly to see the reporter trying to make his best to make it sensational.
Keep it up, Japan!

I admit, I didn’t watch the entire video, but do they expect that the tree is going to continue growing down the rail? That’s incredible…

4-5 years huh… I’ve got some free time. Time to recreate this in my basement!

Wow, this is what makes the news? Well, i guess it’s better than hearing about another child molesting or stabbing though.

And what is so special about this? Ok it is kind of big but you see these kind of things a lot with wires and stuff.
