Japanese SDF warship makes friendly visit to China

June 20th, 2008 by James

A historic visit marking improved relations between Japan and China:

A Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer departed Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Thursday morning for the first visit to China by uniformed Self-Defense Forces personnel.

The 4,650-ton Sazanami is scheduled to arrive in the southern port of Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, on Tuesday and stay for five days as part of a bilateral defense exchange.

The trip follows a visit to Japan in November by the Chinese missile destroyer Shenzhen, the first such port call since the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949.

good to see that. Not having koizumi as a prime minister was the best thing that happened to japan in terms of foreign relations.Ever since the dispute between the emperor of Sui and the emperor of japan (which dated back hundreds and hundreds of years ago) things have never been warm between the two. Add in korea and its a three-way dispute between three of asia’s most powerful nations.

Its nice to see japan ang china move further into better ties. They do realize they need each other for their own country’s benefits.

It is good to see how relations are quickly improving. I was surprised to see the gas deal signed between China and Japan as well.
