Harrison Ford autographs a Japanese news desk

A video clip of Harrison Ford appearing on FTV’s Mezamashi TV morning show to promote the new Indiana Jones movie:

At the end of the clip, he signs their news desk, putting his name next to signatures from Tom Cruise, Will Smith, and Jamie Foxx.

Yes. Harrison saw Tom’s signature, did a quick measurement, and blocked out a larger chunk of the table for himself to make sure his signature was bigger. It was pretty funny. But the Thetans will get him for it!

Why is it that they go “Indiana Jones” by “Indie Jones” in Japan? Does anyone know why?

couple guesses from me. Remember, the name itself is phonetic (katakana) and already long as and without meaning. Shortening it is common. Also, some people might get confused with the state of “Indiana.” <– although doubt this is the reason.

I’m guessing it has to do with the movies’ logo.

Using “Indiana Jones” written in katakana (インディアナ・ジョーンズ) for the logo would make it too long, but “Indy Jones” (インディ・ジョーンズ) is the perfect length.
