Cement use by country

The Oil Drum/Foreign Policy have posted this very interesting graph showing cement consumption by country (Japan is in the top 5):

Well I am sure China will need more cement now to rebuild the earthquake areas of China.

Probably China is now the biggest economy in the world in the volume (not monetary) base.

HAH! That’s nothing! Show me a bar-graph of lead-consumption among nations and I’ll start being pissed at China.

I’m a regular visitor to Japanprobe and I think it’s a great site, but it has come to my attention that there is a certain amount of discrimination created by one person. I think it is obvious to anyone James, that you show dislike towards China and Korea, such posts as this that has nothing to do with Japan suggests this. I was shocked to find a few weeks back that one of your sources was from a immature hate site dedicated to Korea. Anyway, if what I fear is right, please try to throw it away, at least in your postings as it not fair to make people succumb to your hate. If I am wrong screw me over but please consider the latter part of the previous sentence. Either way I would really appreciate a reply.(Sorry I posted this on comments but I wanted to direct this on you not the whole Jp team)

This post has nothing to do with Japan? I’m pretty sure that Japan is on this graph, and it’s one of the world’s top users of concrete. China’s huge use of cement is a very surprising part of the graph, but it’s hardly something I’d consider terrible, and I’m not sure why you do.

I feel no hatred towards Korea or China, but I often hold a negative view of things their governments do or how certain nationalistic groups of their citizens act towards Japan and other countries. I wish I had time to translate more information on stories I post into English, but I don’t. So few English language websites challenge the irrationality and hate coming from nationalists in China and Korea that it becomes hard to find English language sites to link to for background information, and occasionally I do link to sites that aren’t so great.
