Woman Found Living in Man’s Closet

Wow – the bogey man is being given a run for his money by Japanese homeless people, apparently. Talk about a closet case. Where do we even begin on this one?
Japanese man finds woman living in his closet
A Japanese man puzzled by food mysteriously disappearing from his refrigerator got a shock when he found out a woman had been living in his home for months without permission, police said Friday.
The 57-year-old man living alone — or so he thought — in the western city of Fukuoka installed a security camera and called the police when he saw images of someone walking around his home while he was out.
“We searched the house in the man’s presence. We found the woman in the closet,” said a local police spokesman.
The woman, named as 58-year-old Tatsuko Horikawa, was found in a flat storage space only just big enough for a person to squeeze into lying down.
Wow. I don’t know if I’m more horrified or impressed. A number of questions do jump to my mind immediately, though. Did the man freak out and wet himself upon discovering his unknown guest? How many times did she enter / exit / steal his food? Did she secretly use his bathroom too? What else was living in his closet? When was the last time that guy opened his closets? Did he think he just had a seriously bad rat problem? How does this happen?
“She told police that she had nowhere to live,” the spokesman said. “She seems to have lived there for about a year, but not all the time.”
It is unclear how she managed to enter the home undetected. Police suspect she might have been closet-hopping, moving from house to house.

You hear that, Japan? You have shadowy ninja-like closet-hopping homeless people living amongst you. A nomadic group that secretly infiltrates other peoples’ closets. And so far as the bogey man goes, hey – at least he didn’t eat your food.

Of course my first reaction would be to want to beat the living crap out of whoever is trespassing but then again I think I’d try to find a solution for the persons problem. Get them a place in a shelter or whatever. It’s easy to say that but if you are a single male and a female moves in without your approval that’s almost like marriage. Just keep her, she can do things around the house and you’ll have some company. That’s totally weird of course but less strange than hiding in a closet.

Is the Japanese attitude toward the homeless as pathetically bad as it is here in the US?

I am not American, but have heard from Americans that there are shelters for the homeless, and those on the streets are those that refuse the shelters.
Anyone in Osaka who wants to check out the homeless should wander around Kamagaseki. Quite the eye-opener.

Not exactly. Shelters aren’t homes; people are forced to leave them every day to try and give others a chance to use them and they have to turn people away when they get full. So just because people are on the street doesn’t mean they’re refusing the shelters.
Anyway this woman is a ninja of some kind. If I found a ninja staying in my house I’d put her to work exterminating my enemies.

I am American and I know that some shelters reach there max capacity leaving others with nowhere to go. In my hometown of Springfield, MA a homeless man froze to death on the stairs of the town hall. I hope this woman is being helped and not just punished. I dont think anyone wants to live in a closet.

If this incident happened to me i would be very surprised, but i would not get angry or kick them out of my house, i would let them live in the closet for the rest of my life because that’s awesome to have someone living in ur closet.

But there’s no room in the closet anymore, Tom Cruise is already in there and refuses to come out.

I would probably be too stunned to do anything. But what I did after that would depend on what sort of person it was.
There’s a report in Japanese at

so we know it wasn’t some fancy joke by Breitbart.

A similar thing happened in the UK once – a young man hid in the attic of an elderly man’s house, stealing and cooking his food while he was out, and using an upstairs window as an entrance. It went on for months before the man realised his sausages were disappearing, and became suspicious.

You know, I think if it had happened to me for real then I’d be more selfish about it, but my first thought after I’d read it was that she lived there for about a year — but stole nothing but food. For that alone I’d probably just let her stay, if she hadn’t robbed you blind by now I don’t think she ever will!

Hey, that’s like Lum in Urusei Yatsura, only Ataru knew about it. Ah, that brings back memories…

What would I do? Depends if the person in my closet is a hot chick. Although, if she’s a hobo, it’s not likely.

yeah i had the same thought.. And besides she is eithier a ninja of godlike qualites or that guy was so dense he never once looked in his closet for something?
All being said i would let her stay, if the story is true and she only took food and showerd she cant be all bad. just ask her to do housework or w/e she may even get a job then be able to support herself?

I would have to make them do me “special favors” since they have been living in my closet!

If I found a closet hopping ninja, I would offer them food and board in exchange for housecleaning and lessons in their special skill. And a puppy. They would need to buy me a puppy.

Yes, lessons in being a closet ninja and housecleaning would be a decent compensation.
Especially since I didn’t notice them for months on end.
But then again.. one wonders what she has seen and heard over all that time..

Well i think it really depends on what kind of person the intruder is: i think i wouldnt freak out so much if it would be a woman but if it would be a man i would be more scared. I don’t know it just depends on a lot of things..

That’s the funniest thing I ever heard! I would keep the woman as purely my sex object. She can live in the closet as long as she wants but will need to serve my sexual needs. lol!

The thing about homeless folk is… their organs are just as harvest-able as non-homeless. A kidney on the black market would easily cover a year’s back rent.
