As overthinker says, the word ""zainichi" is a legal and administrative term and lacks the offensive connotation itself. 2ch anti-korean people use other dirty words to bash zainichi koreans and I think the word "zainichi" never reminds them of the taiwanese. As long as I know, most of them are naively pro-taiwanese as a reaction to their resentment toward the koreans.

What word would you prefer the 2ch people use? I personally think that it's the contents of what they say that make it offensive, and so whatever term you preferred would end up being used in offensive ways.

Well at least for me it offends me. If you look at 2ch ppl use it in very offensive ways, when they're referring to especially zainichi koreans. I mean you can say that like zainichi gaikoku jin and that's totally fine with me. Well I'm not zainichi korean, i'm taiwanese, so i don't really know how it's like for them, thanks for your info about it btw.

Actually in this case at least they would not be zainichi, who are exempt from the fingerprinting anyway.

Zainichi Chousenjin/Kankokujin is the official term for resident Koreans in Japan. Neither Mindan nor Souren seem to have a problem with it. Obviously it is discriminatory - so is "American," or "British," or "White," or "Sexy." Is it designed to offend? Hardly.

What would a zainichi have to do to get deported, I wonder?

Sorry no offense, but I don't like the word 'zainichi' to be used especially if you don't mean to offend someone.. the word has a discriminative connotation, fyi. I'm saying that especially because I am that myself (which I didn't realize until very recently). It not only refers to Koreans but to Taiwanese also.

The more recent ones have a hard plate inside which encases some nifty circuitry to prevent counterfeits. Maybe a faked marriage is easier to arrange than obtaining one that works.
But then again, I realized as I was writing this that there's no reason not to try to make a fake passport of the older version...

Wonder if "South Korean" means "Zainichi".... Like the case recently were a deported zainichi was arrested for entering Japan illegally. He said people made fun and looked down on him because he didn't speak Korean and he could only live in Japan. It's probably his own fault since he could have naturalised before committing the crimes that got him deported but a it's a tragedy nonetheless.
