We Are The World

May 25th, 2008 by James

Back in March 2007, we posted a clip from a Japanese TV show in which impersonators sang “We Are The World.” Thanks to BoingBoing, we have now found the full 3 minutes and 44 seconds of their performance:

My first instinct is to laugh but that’s because I’m not Black. Look out when the Al Sharpton’s and Jesse Jackson’s of the world find out about the black face going on in this comedy bit.

@Trufax

I thought the same thing at first, but this isn’t America. They are imitating people, isn’t better to actually look like the person? It wasn’t done in a negative way.

I agree – how is a Japanese going to imitate a black person without makeup?

Actually I agree too and am I am black. As long as they were not the color of charcoal and wearing big red lips its little to be offended about. I suspect that the issue of blackface is becoming more of a generational thing with the older generation upset to see anyone with makeup on.
