Both have a small number of gems in the mainstream that are truly hilarious and original while everything else is cliched, boring, and (usually) attempting to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Most of these comedians sustain themselves by either copying and leeching off the popularity of others or by doing something extremely stupid that - by sheer luck - becomes popular for a brief time. I feel that this is much more blatant in Japanese comedy and Yoshio Kojima would fit perfectly in the latter category (as would Tom Green, to a somewhat lesser extent). Although I'm not as familiar with the Japanese end, I'd be willing to guess that the U.S. has a much stronger group of underground comedians as I get the impression that the Japanese talent agencies like Horipro and Yoshimoto are bit too powerful and all-encompassing. Anyway, I'm probably rambling. Hard Gay's act was definitely very weak and I agree that it will not be missed. He did seem like a pretty decent guy in real life based on what little I had read, though. :-/ Now if we could just be rid of that goddamned little girl who thinks she can rap, I'll be happy.
