Colorful [youtube playlist]

May 21st, 2008 by Claytonian

I ain’t gonna beat around the bush; Colorful is an anime with plenty of not quite suitable for work shots and concepts. Consider yourself warned and your own judgment engaged. But it’s also pretty funny, and well produced. The cuts, transitions, and leitmotifs are among some of the best modern anime has to offer. And in a way, this is a good look at Japanese (and possibly masculine) culture, not because it reinforces the stereotypes, but because it’s about the way Japanese men approach sexuality, which is usually an interesting clash between openness and hidden desires. There are English subs for the first three episodes in this playlist, after that you are on your own unless you read Spanish.

Haha that was quite funny. What does the “gobu” in the opening theme mean??

It’s only amusing if you find the fact that grown men acting like giggling 10 year old boys funny.

No wonder most ANY foreigner can score with Japanese women a zillion times easier then any of the domestic men.

I’d be interesting to know how such a dilemma arose – certainly the men just didn’t decide one day to act like complete morons when it comes to women or sex – did they?

So who’s to blame, the men, the parents who raised them, the public schools, the media, the women who put up with such nonsense, who?

Perhaps that’s because they ran out of domestic men to score with.

Oh, trust me, it’s a worldwide epidemic of immaturity. Watch any of Judd Apatow’s films if you don’t believe me.

Apparently, grown-up masculine men are “scary,” so males are now being encouraged to effeminize themselves, desexualize themselves completely, or at the very least remain mentally and socially underdeveloped so that the modern woman won’t find them intimidating. Of course, the modern woman can’t really be happy with nudniks like these, but radical feminism has regrettably moved from the noble goal of empowering women to the unnecessarily vindictive goal of disempowering men.

What you’re seeing, in Japan and America and elsewhere as well, is a generation of middle-class men who have chosen the easy road and consented to their own disempowerment.

…Jeezis, I sound like a stuck-up misogynistic bastard here, don’t I?

Funny I remember watching these on G4 late at night. Funniest one was the man and his paper cutout girl he traded in for a more attractive one that would end up leaving him.

Anyway I also thought that these would make for a funny tv series too.
