US Marine arrested for having souvenir sword at Naha Airport

A reader just sent us a mail with this news link (Japanese) about a US Marine that was arrested in Okinawa yesterday for having a sword in his luggage at Naha Airport. The corporal, who had finished up a tour in Okinawa and was on his way back to a posting in America, told Japanese police that he had received the sword from a friend and had planned on taking it back home as a souvenir.
In other news, Staff Sgt. Tyrone L. Hadnott has been sentenced to 4 years behind bars for molesting a 14-year-old girl in Okinawa, and rape charges have been dropped against a US soldier. There has also been some minor tension between a local newspaper and Misawa Airbase in Aomori after the US military banned two reporters who violated rules while covering events at the base.
