Japan to supply America with gasoline

Japan may soon be expanding its gasoline exports to America:

Japan and the United States will set up a forum of public- and private-sector officials to promote Japan’s gasoline exports to the United States, it was learned Wednesday.

The forum will hold its first meeting in San Francisco on Thursday, according to officials of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The United States, which is faced with a chronic shortage of oil- refining capacities, imports gasoline from European and other countries.

Meanwhile, Japan is looking to export gasoline since domestic demand is unlikely to grow markedly and the oil industry has excess refining capacities.

I wasn’t aware that exporting gas from Japan, which is itself supplied solely by imported fuel, was an economical option. Why isn’t the US just buying directly from the same sources as Japan? Isn’t Japan just a middle-man in all of this?

Democrats are even less likely to build new refineries. So I doubt November is going to help increase domestic gasoline production.

Perhaps Obama can sprinkle fairy dust over the problem or have a nice sit down with OPEC and magically solve the problem of high fuel prices. That seems to be his plan as far as I can tell.

I’m not sure why you believe that I’m a Democrat from that one sentence. Were he to be elected, McCain is definitely more qualified than Bush in solving the current oil price/production problems.

November means getting rid of the country-destroying president/VP that we have in power now. This “chronic shortage of oil refineries” stinks to me of trying to avoid the actual solution of developing healthy foreign relations with the middle east – i.e. if we had more domestic oil we wouldn’t have started the war in Iraq in the first place – and that’s just total crap.

Isn’t Japan also suffering from the rising price of gasoline, and people are angry about the recent gasoline tax raise? I don’t get why they’re doing this.

Think of how many people drive cars in Japan. They just dont use gas near as much as americans would. What I dont get is where are they getting their gas? A reserve or do they have oil rigs I dont know about lol.

They don’t have oil but they have refineries. They get the oil from the middle east or whatever. The article says that the US needs to import gasoline because of lack of *refining capacity*.

thats because the USA has one of the poorest public transports in the world. As a result americans are forced to buy cars as a necessity. Ive stayed in the US and believe there are some points (im already in a city which is LA) which is impossible to get from Point A to Point B without a car.

I much prefer cars to public transport. Some of us just dislike or don’t get along in public transport.

You think the U.S. has fuel bad, they are many countries worse off with fuel prices.
