Funky “Kamaboko” Clouds
This video is currently making the rounds on social networks. I figured it would be an interesting addition to Japan Probe, too. Check out these wacky cloud formations spotted just north of Hokkaido above the Okhotsk Sea by a Japanese crew. Sorry about the audio quality – it’s pretty bad.
The narrator says, “It gives the impression visually of a series of gigantic kamaboko floating on the sea.” While I don’t know about that, I second the pilot of 35 years’ opinion – I’ve never seen clouds like that before. They’re estimated to be about 300 meters high from the surface of the ocean, and up to 100 kilometers in length.
