Japan Photo of the Week: Deer of Nara Park

Mother’s day is coming up, so in honor of that I tried to find a photo that fits. Of course I have no way of knowing for sure, as I am no animal expert, but I like to imagine that these deer are a family.

This photo was taken in Nara Koen, where deer roam freely. If you are in the Kansai region and don’t have plans yet for Mother’s Day, why not spend it at Nara Park? I find the Nara deer to be far too aggressive. Last time I went there, they tried to eat my map! It’s still a very pretty place, but if you can make the trip, Hiroshima’s Miyajima island has much gentler free-roaming deer.

From my experiences, deer everywhere in Japan will try and eat any kind of paper (or random things) that is close to them. I cannot really say which place has more gentle deer but I didn’t have any problems at either place…

The May 10 photo of the week is from November? Really? If you don’t have photos to offer from this week, why not open up a section for user submission?

I explained why I used this photo this week. Why does the photo of the week have to be from the exact time it is now? thanks for your constructive criticism though. User submissions might not be a bad idea in the future, especially since I am leaving Japan in August.
