Damn, half of them are ghibli movies.
Not that surprising I guess.

Are we sure “interesting” is the best way to translate omoshirokatta in this context? Most of these films are extremely simplistic, family fare.

Exactly what I thought… There is no way Conan or Lupin are interesting in the “intellectual” sense.

I agree. I think it’s more like “fun” than interesting anyway. Omoshiroi is one of those words that changes meaning in English. A kid jumping out of a roller coaster after a ride and shouting “Omoshirokatta!” isn’t referring to anything remotely “interesting” in the way we would in English. “Entertaining” or “fun” would be better.

I think interesting in English gets used in this way, but yes, generally we mean intellectually stimulating.
Also don’t forget omoshiroi can mean funny.

Yeah, but those aren’t really comedy movies listed.

I don’t think those movies are as well-known in Japan (among ordinary people) as they are in the West.

We have to know Japanese commons who voted this have fairly different tastes from otaku (Japanese or not). For the former, animated cartoon (which is “anime” in Japanese) is just a “kid’s cartoon”, just as they are so for Western parents. You can’t expect mature (read: cult) titles like Akira, Ghost in the Shell or Paprika would make the list.

Paprika is duplicated in the vote list. It was hard to choose, but I voted for Ghost in the Shell at the end.

Laputa means “The bitch” in Spanish.

I chose One Piece because it’s really exciting and it’s not yet finished which makes it more interesting.. hehe.., but FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) was great as well as bleach.. Damn, I actually cried a couple of times because of FMA.. hehe. pretty crazy huh?
