Train Passengers Robbed While Napping

April 25th, 2008 by James

The next time you doze off on the train, be aware that thefts do sometimes occur:

YOKOHAMA–A man referred to prosecutors Thursday told police he stole more than 100 bags from train racks over a three-year period.

Hiromi Ichige, 66, told police he stole bags from JR Keihin Tohoku Line trains while their owners slept. The unemployed resident of Sagamihara in the prefecture told police he would place his own bag next to the targeted item and make off with the latter if the owner drowsed.

It’s just freaking weird to me that people in Japan go through these sorts of moments of growing a conscience over their guilt, more often than not, than any other modern world country. It’s just weird to me that people step forward and admit to this stuff.
You would never hear anything like this in the States or Europe or something, so it’s just weird to me. What happens in Japanese people’s conscience, anyways?

I’ve seen the video in which a man was trying to pick
the wallet when the passenger was asleep. He was very
smart. If the passenger wakes up, he says, “Hey, be careful, you know, there are pickpockets in the train. I was going to wake you up to tell that.”

Like taking candy from a baby. A sleeping one.

Falling asleep in public places can be dangerous. Yet everyone does it.

Welp, not problem.

Not MY problem I mean.

Maybe people can use their time on the train productively instead.

funny how most countries view japan as a very safe country. Well its the passenger’s fault anyway , hasnt he heard “please take care of your belongings at all time”?

Italy is way worse. My cousin just asked an italian man to take a picture of him. Then the italian man said “1…2…”…the he ran off with the camera. Good thing this didnt happen to me in Tokyo

Ummmm… Japan is a very safe country. Yes, theft does happen but nowhere near the amount it does in Europe or SE Asia. Most of these people sleeping are doing so because they are so exhausted from working so many hours.

That’s time for social upheaval in the generation change and the Japanese left succeeded in destruction of education and social values. Sad.

Apparently that English saying: “Ya snooze ya lose” is true even in Japan.

If people thought about all the germs on those trains they wouldn’t fall asleep. The one guy looks like hes drooling all over the seat. I wouldn’t want to sit there.
