I subscribe to the “keep it simple” school of design, so I’m a huge fan of the new logo. The old one, like someone stated above, is far to busy, and I don’t think the elements blend together well (all the extra lines and dots).

So are we supposed to type it ‘docomo’ now instead of ‘DoCoMo’?

They should have just become Softbank’s antithesis…

I find it kinda odd that the old logo was made without a branding division. Then I find it a bit odd that they only created a branding division last year. A little late to the game for a major corporation…

From the press release:
The changes are the result of DoCoMo’s review of its branding and related marketing strategies after establishing the Corporate Branding Division in August 2007.

I don’t think the old logo worked so well, but BakaNewMexican is right at least in as much as he says at least the old one was distinct. I think the new one is an improvement juxtaposed against the old, but they’ve made a logo that looks mighty similar to a lot of other logos, which have been brought up here. If you don’t think it’s web 2.0, just compare it with xerox’s new logo…

Closely resembles the Conoco logo on gas stations. Kinda retro-looking.

Not very Web 2.0-esque, since it’s NOT glossy and there is NO reflection.

I’m sure the parents of whatever child designed the new logo is very proud (of their child, not the logo).

On the bright side, I’m sure it’s worth the 5000 yen they paid for it.

And think of all the money they’ll save by going with a single color logo when they print stuff.

The new one is too simple.
The company’s old president or executives might made a decision for this.
Creativity from new generations still was controlled by some seniors.

I’m underwhelmed.

The new logo for NTT DoCoMo is dull, boring, and uninspiring.

The old NTT DoCoMo logo was a masterpiece. It has a certain panache that was distinctive and recognizable. Qualities that the new logo severely lacks.

The only solid advantage over the old one, I think, is that the old one was too busy, what with all the lines and such.

The new one is more modern and subtle, whereas the old one is more recognisable to me.

I feel sorry for the poor chumps who have to replace the logo at the top of the Docomo tower in Shinjuku…

It looks like DoCoMo’s logo went from New to Old O__O I like the new one..but it’s nothing special. I wonder how much the guy got for designing the new simple one…. >.>
