Alligator Snapping Turtle In Tokyo

An animal identified by reports as an alligator snapping turtle was found swimming in a pond at a park in Tokyo’s Shinagawa area yesterday:

The fearsome beast, which is not native to Japan, is believed to have been somebody’s pet. Police are searching for its owner.

That’s not an aligator snapping turtle. That is a snapping turtle. Big difference in price because aligator snapper is a more rare species. So the news people misidentified it.

You are indeed correct. Not to mention an alligator snapping turtle would not even fit into that cage.

Who wants to have a turtle like this as a pet? It seems pretty big and pretty boring.

had an alligator snapping turtle in my back yard once almost twice that size.

that was about 6 years ago i think. wish i could see it now.
