Yeah you are right, it won’t make Japanese people more suspicious of what they buy because it isn’t foreign. I wonder how long before a Japanese import kills someone in a foreign country the way things are going. And would Japan like to be labeled the way China is?

the intention of the post

It was a top story of the day and was about Japanese perceptions of foreign countries, so I posted a link to an article about it. This is a blog that tries to cover Japan news of that nature, and I was counting on readers to discuss the possible biases behind this story in the comments section.

and yet this post is all too ready to point the finger at the chinese.
over something that’s had 3 complaints.

The story is being reported as was by every major Japanese media outlet: as a Chinese product scare.

the article talks about it as a japanese company with no mention of china until the last sentence..

The first sentence of the English Mainichi article mentions it as a Chinese-made product, and if you click on the link to view the original Japanese language article it was translated from, you’ll see that the headline itself contains “中国製Ｔシャツ”.)

my bad, china’s also mentioned in the first line.
still not clear on what the intention of the post is though.
seems to be spreading the bias rather than drawing attention to it

The Mainichi story about that was in the link box this morning. That story is being presented as a suspected case of an individual deliberately opening a sealed bottle, putting poison in it, and placing it in on a supermarket shelf:

“Noting that the man says the cap of the bottle was loose, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) suspects that someone may have deliberately laced the tea with the chemical, and is treating the case as forcible obstruction of business.”

I doubt it will make anyone seriously afraid about Japanese products in general, but that particular brand of tea will probably suffer a drop in sales.

Yesterday I read about a poisonous herbicide found in Healthya green tea so you better be careful about every single Japanese product you buy because they are almost as bad as the Chinese when it comes to product safety.

The Japanese just apologize better.
