Evangelion does So-ranbushi

April 3rd, 2008 by Claytonian

At first I was under the impression that this was a local dance the school kids did at sports day and other events. Then I learned it was a national thing. And now I find that giant robots do it too.
[hat tip to Bret for the find]

I do believe this is derived from the Sapporo Yosakoi Matsuri. I remember my daughter doing this for the first time at one of her school festivals when she was in about 5th or 6th grade, which would be about 10 years ago.

soran bushi is like a traditional dance from japan, that’s from hokkaido ( so perhaps sapporo, but maybe even more rurual)… it’s a fisherman’s dance.

Wow, that’s very cool! Must’ve taken an age to do, though!
