TBS Catching Heat After Child Injured During Performance

March 31st, 2008 by James

Japanese net users are quite shocked over the following video of Kung Fu Kun star Zhang Zhuang’s head bleeding after a martial arts demonstration:

Several versions of the video have received thousands of views on YouTube, with many comments angry about TBS television network engaging in child exploitation and the apparent lack of serious concern in the video over the blood pouring down Zhang Zhuang’s head.

n

Do you think this is child exploitation?

Did you happen to look at his face? He is after all only a kid.

It was so many attempts to find new Jackie Cheng…
But kids-TV/movie-stars is alway an exploitation. To be successful in shows/movies they had to sacrifice their education, and I doubt they(or their parents) really think about what they going to do when grow up.

I don’t look at it as explotation, the kid was playing, people get hurt by playing every day, and he still stands up, he was way cool though ;)

Accidents happen, he’s fine i’m sure. The lady presenter tried to cover it up though which looked a bit dodgy.

There were other copies of the video on YouTube, and probably someone will reupload it if those copies got taken off too.

I agree they should have taken care of the wound quickly.

Just when you thought TBS could sink no lower. Now that the Kameda family have disappeared into their shell, TBS needs a new punk.

The hosts being morons notwithstanding (let a child bleed while on air, riiight), I think most of the outrage is due to the sight of blood on a kid.

Wounds to the scalp tend to bleed profusedly, also they’re usually not painful, or even felt at all (the recipient of such wounds often doesn’t notice it himself). With this in mind, the images aren’t nearly as impressive.

Maybe the hosts saw it was just a scratch and didn’t think of how it would look on tv…

I can vouch for that. Hit my head once, thought it was moderately extremely painful, but then thought nothing more of it until a Niagara of blood started cascading over my face. Sure looked impressive….

As far as “exploitation” goes, even of children, this is nothing. Was it live TV? I assume so.

To be honest, this seems like a bit of an over-reaction to me.

1.) Martial Arts is dangerous. Simple fact. If this is the first time the kid has bled during his training, I’d be very suprised.

2.) Head wounds bleed profusely even when minor. They need taken care of, sure, but they always look much worse than they are.

3.) Yes, they should have taken care of immediately, but they were on TV. I’m sure the conversation in their head went something like this “OcrapthekidisbleedingweregoingtobecanceledandI’mgoingtobefiredwhatamIgoingtodoturnthekidawayfromthecamerawhileIfigurethisoutGOTOCOMMERCIAL!”

This is so not child exploitation. These kids learn Kung Fu from a very early age. They know the risks and they train hard. They are much harder and can take a lot more than your average child. If anything, it’s the fault of his stuntmen. Any head wound will bleed profusely, no matter how small the cut. He is a brave and extremely talented child. This sort of thing wouldn’T fly in America because americans have dumbed society down and are overprotective.
