Prince Hisahito Walks

Prince Hisahito, who is third in line to the Japanese throne, visited the Imperial Stock Farm in Tochigi Prefecture yesterday. In all previous appearances the child prince had made up to this point, he was carried by his parents, but this time he displayed his walking ability:

Exactly, I don’t get the whole “Figurehead Monarch” thing. They don’t do anything but use resources and waste peoples time. A waste IMO.

Most western voters might thought unimportant.
I think it’s good for Japan and some other (Asian) countries for retain their royal/imperial families. Due to country’s history, Royal families still play pivotal roles in some ways for these countries. For me, I’m proud that my country be called “Kingdom of ….”.

It’s a role-model thing. I guess it was more important to have monarchs back in ye olde days, when emperors were seen as deities. Now it’s obviously less so, but I find still important nonetheless.

One of the great advantages of a monarch is that it is non-partisan. Each time the US elects a president, half the population (or more) are going to be sitting there steamed that the wrong guy got in, that they are being led by the wrong guy. The monarch, being above politics, can transcend this. It also helps to stem to some extent the greed of politics, in that no one can actually get the top job aside from the guy who never asked for it in the first place. Unless of course you bump the monarch off, which the French did….
