Japan Photo of the Week: Cherry Blossoms at Yoyogi Park

Cherry blossoms are just around the corner…well in Tokyo anyway. If you are looking for a good place to partake in hanamiing (yeah I just put “ing” on a Japanese word) the most famous place is probably Ueno Park, but I prefer Yoyogi Park.

To be honest, if the weather is nice and if you are with good company, you can’t go wrong at either place….or as it was pointed out by David in last weeks post, it can be just as interesting with the wrong people. Also a great way to make random friends (even if it usually is with drunk salary men). So go out and buy one of those blue tarps, charge your camera batteries and watch as Japan becomes obsessed with cherry blossoms once again. To see more cherry blossom photos, check out the gallery.

I never know why it is that when people profess a natural and healthy appreciate for the opposite sex they are derided as “perverted.” It is as if we are forbidden from any form of sexual arousal, despite it being the basest of our desires – and the reason we are alive. I do know why, of course – for one thing, long years of oppression by religious and secular authorities determined to control the one form of pleasure that is available to all, regardless of wealth or class – but find the hypocrisy annoying.

You can just say take part in hanami. “Hanamiing” is redundant. Take part in flower viewinging. Nice try.

Yeah I know, but it is more fun to mix Japanese and English… especially adding “shimasu” at the end of any English verb. Come on, don’t tell me you have never done it (like back when you were first learning Japanese).

Thanks Turner, yeah it was early morning. Actually this was one of the first photos I took in Japan, I had just arrived and still jet lagged so the first week or so I was up real early everyday…
