I thought the Hollywood movie “The Condemned” was like the U.S. version of “Battle Royale” except with prisoners instead of schoolchildren.

when i first heard of this i was so frightend, and now that i see the commercials on tv it makes me want to write angry lettters to hollywood to tell them to stop remaking movies i like!!
not only does the movie look like its going to be messed up (and not in the good way the original is) but taking place in japan? wtf? did these people not pass elementry level geography?
as long as battle royale remains on ‘hiatus’ im happy though, that would be a complete rape of an amazing film

Don’t blame the audience.

Blame the people too lazy to make their own horror movies, and just want to cash in using somebody else’s work, Like Hollywood.

“scary” girls with long hair is over-rated and b-o-r-i-n-g.

I guess the only horror movie that is worth waiting is Evil Dead 4. could be the only movie.

I think that sometimes the differences in language usage and pop culture make some British comedies not quite as appealing to mainstream American audiences.

When it comes to high budget films, though, there are often British-made movies that do quite well with American audiences.

Subtitles aren’t the only reason why foreign movies are remade, but I have meet quite a few people who absolutely refuse to watch movies with subtitles.

Same here – though the trade isn’t entirely one-way. But Americans do seem to need a greater feeling of “connection” to a show.

I think it has more to do with wanting the movie in your own language instead of having to read subtitles.

It’s really sad that mainstream american, and even other countries’, audiences are too intellectually lazy to watch a movie that doesn’t have the usual Hollywood actors, cinematography and location.

For me the problem with JHorror is that what the film makers try to pass off as being ambiguous or mysterious, is really just sloppy writing. Have you seen “one missed call” it was just awful and I can’t imagine the remake could be any worse.

I actually liked the remake of the Ring better than the original. It gave more of the backstory involved in the plot. (Though no substitute for the book!)

I may be in the minority, but I really liked the remake of the Grudge too. It’s hard to compare it to the original, which I really love, but I think it was about equal in quality. Maybe it’s because I can relate more to the experience of a foreign woman in Tokyo, that it hit home with me. The sequel was utter crap, though.

I would really be interested in seeing how Battle Royale would be made over for American audiences. If indeed it even could, given the subject matter. I don’t know if that qualities as horror, though.

I’ve seen Shutter, it was quite good actually. Quite unnecessary to do a remake, but well everything for the mainstream audience I guess…

I really liked the remake of The Grudge though, but I am a bit of a Sarah Michelle Gellar fan so. ( ﾟ∀ﾟ)o彡
