Shizuoka Cop Charged With Beating Chinese Man

March 7th, 2008 by James

Just noticed this report from TBS news about a police officer in Shizuoka being charged with assault for hitting a Chinese man:

Few details are given, but apparently the incident took place in late December when the Chinese man was being held in a detention cell at a Shizuoka Prefectural police station. The report makes vague mention of the Chinese man being hit in the face by the officer, and that no serious injuries resulted.

James, this all happened in Shizuoka-ken.
I’ve had to deal with the cops in Fukuoka a couple times and they were actually very reasonable and helpful. I’d hate for them to get a bad rap.

Whoops, stupidly mixed the two up in my mind during the delay between the time I watched the video and wrote the description of it.

Thanks for pointing out the error.

Now, when this gets featured on Debito, will it be “Japanese police are racist” or will it be “Japanese police actually made to account for violence”?

In Canada, it depends on how much this Chinese fellow wants to pay and make it a big deal. People know they get paid or a free trip to Beijing for doing a favour to commies.
