Is this really necessary? The shinkasen is already plenty convienient enough, and how many homes are they going to need to buy up and knock down to make way for the railroad? Something about this project just seems totally unncecessary... I also wonder how it would get enough customers to be profitable because the shinkansen already is the main form of transportation that businessmen and regular people take when traveling between Osaka and Tokyo. If it is cheaper and faster, I could see it being popular, but if the opposite is true, then I cannot imagine what JapanRail is thinking,,, Well, as they said, it is still decades away,　and for all I know there may not be a shinkansen anymore when they get around to building it.

It could go even faster if they didn't have to deal with noise ordinances.

I wonder what oil would be in adjusted dollars, taking into account the drop in the US$?

I personally find it very positive about this Meglev Train Plan.(Although the travel time is about the same as airplane, Meglev Train can move with energy far less than airplane.) I hope this will contribute to technology innovation and economy boost.

I think the plan became possible since the superconductivity power line was developed that can send the mass electric power for generating powerful magnetism (by the minimum energy loss).

They've been talking about that for decades already. Maybe if oil stays above $100 permanently they can actually make it cost effective.
