Eat Whale And Save The Planet

An interesting claim from a pro-whaling group:

Eat a whale and save the planet, a Norwegian pro-whaling lobby said on Monday of a study showing that harpooning the giant mammals is less damaging to the climate than farming livestock.

Environmental group Greenpeace dismissed the survey, saying almost every kind of food was more climate friendly than meat.

The survey, focused on whale boats’ fuel use, showed that a kilo (2.2 lbs) of whale meat represented just 1.9 kilo (4.2 lbs) of greenhouse gases against 15.8 for beef, 6.4 for pork and 4.6 for chicken.

“Basically it turns out that the best thing you can do for the planet is to eat whale meat compared to other types of meat,” said Rune Froevik of the High North Alliance, which represents the interests of coastal communities in the Arctic.

In other whaling news, the company that owns the Japanese whaling ships recently attacked by Sea Shepherd is taking legal action against alleged trespassing and forcible obstruction of business.

This is a ridiculous comparison anyway. Whale only rates that as it’s not farmed or harvested in commercial quantities. It’s because cows and sheep don’t wander the land in sufficient numbers to feed us all that we have to expend the energy to grow them. How does whale compare against fishing (tuna, say) or subsistence hunting?

Even if more people consume whale meat, people will never cut down on beef, pork, lamb, etc.

I would eat only whale meats instead of beef, pork, chicken and lamb. The whale meat is so healthy and just like lean beef without BSE concern.

“Environmental group Greenpeace dismissed the survey, saying almost every kind of food was more climate friendly than meat.”

All the Greenpeace activists are vegetarians? They should protest against the destructive meet industry of Australia. GO!GO! Peter Garrett! But he is now quite contradictorily confused.

Screw you hippies. If you don’t eat your whale, you can’t have any pudding.

With faulty logic like “eat the whales, save the planet” I can’t wait to see their even lower carbon footprint idea “eat old people and solve two global problems at once”.

Can we eat people with brain dead who come up with the idea like that?

I would feel less guilty of doing that at least to the ones in some sort of dead state than just older people.

I don’t understand what a fuss is all about whaling or eating for that matter.

They are not endangered species. Are they cute? Yes, they might be to some people.
So are the cows, chickens and sheep.

Are we only allowed to eat anything ugly?

Yes, you! The one reading this comment! Look in the mirror, How ugly are you? You have a big nose, flabby pinkish skin, a longer tongue and fatty torso with toothpick-like limbs. You don’t look pretty. Then again, I won’t eat you because you are too smelly, not because you are ugly. Hahaha.

I thought eating whale made sense just because the meat from 1 whale would equal the meat from 100 cows (maybe more, maybe less)

Killing 1 animal vs. killing 100 animals?
Killing just 1 is the humane choice, of course!

It’s really sad that unemployed losers waste their lives on this silliness when HUMANS are dying across the world.

OH, BTW, are those Sea Shepherd ships solar powered? DO they use clean sailboats? No? Belching CO2 and leaking oil just like any other? What a shock…

When you can raise whales from birth to slaughter weight in just two-three years, and raise MORE whales then you kill just like they do in cattle ranching, then I’d agree with you.

You want to keep whales in captive. That’s even more cruel. Aren’t you already happy to keep chickens, cows and sheep in concentration camp for slaughtering?

I think Australia should ban cattle and sheep industries and grow grains in those emptied ranches. That also helps global warming.
