I would urge JP readers to visit that Singaporean blog actually, if only for comments that show how Singaporeans, supposedly members of one of the world's most diverse cities, can be so insular. The term ang mo (紅毛) is tossed around and white people are referred to as "foreigners" at least as readily as Japan.

Depends, if you're in singapore, the standards is rather high here since there's frequent hygiene checks and all. But I can't really say that for the Food in China tho, same goes for Malaysia.

If I have to say, the cleaniest Asian restaurants are usually Japanese (1st) and Korean (2nd). Vietnamese and Chinese restaurants are dirty. I'm surprised many of them passed the health inspection. Thai restaurants look much cleaner than Vietnamese and Chinese. Of course, there are some Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants that have high standards.

Of course it can't be the only country in the world with such faults. China exports lots of food. The percentage of exported food that happens to be poisonous or non-eatable is so small compare to the rest of the big picture. In terms of percentage, that number is almost negligible.

So do people think that the future will be characterized by more food-safety scares in other countries as well? China is getting a lot of attention regarding this probably because of the concurrence of the tainted gyoza scandal and coverage on the upcoming Olympics, but it can't be the only country in th world with such faults.

"Didn’t make me want to eat one though, even in China…."

Ah, but you're not Chinese I presume....

"Interesting debate you’re having on Ampton, Overthinker!"

It's getting kind of pointless having debates on blog comment lists though. They end up being "Yes!" "No!" "Yes!" No!" over and over again. That's why I'm not generally interested in getting into them, but every so often you say something pretty mild and someone tries to jump on you for it.

(Yeah, I should use the deal, but it's easier to type quotation marks, and seems to work fine....)
