Japanese Aegis Destroyer Sinks Fishing Boat

A Japanese ship equipped with with the Aegis combat system (perhaps the world’s most advanced integrated weapons system built to defend against air, surface, and subsurface threats) accidentally crashed into a fishing boat this morning:

MINAMIBOSO, Chiba — A Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) destroyer collided with a fishing boat off the coast of Chiba early Tuesday, splitting the fishing boat in two and leaving a father and his son missing, officials said.

The 7,700-ton MSDF Atago destroyer collided with the Seitokumaru tuna trawler about 40 kilometers south-southwest of Nojimazaki Cape in Minamiboso shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The hull of the 7.3-ton fishing boat was smashed in two, and two people on board the vessel, identified as 58-year-old Haruo Kichisei and his 23-year-old son Tetsuhiro, are missing.

This will work well for North Korea should they ever decide to invade – Aegis ships are obviously incapable of detecting fishing boats, which is about all the Norks could afford….

oh, wait, they’re not American soldiers, so they get a free pass, even though they seem to have actually KILLED people.

I, for one, weigh equally the crimes of the armies of foreign nations on U.S. soil with the crimes of U.S. military personnel. They can either ALL commit crimes with no repurcussions, or they can ALL be booted out of the country for offences. Fair is fair, after all, am I right? There is absolutely no way to distinguish between national security and the foreign national policy in regards to the U.S. It’s impossible! It’s not like we can just kick foreign armies off of our soil, even if we don’t want them there. That would be ridiculous! You know, all of those foreign armies in America…the umm…Iranian guard station of Miami Florida, and…German… airforce base in… Pennsylvania?

Who do they think they are, insinuating that Japan’s national security is a decision to be left to the Japanese. Preposterous!

Which is a training center on an American military base, not a German military base on American soil.

Holloman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base in Otero County…
German aircrews come to Holloman for approximately three weeks for advanced tactical training and then return to Germany.

Very big difference compared to the Yokohama and Okinawa American military installations.

But wait, the Aegis weapons system is an American product, being sold to Japan. And this system that can supposedly lock on to 20 planes or missiles and shoot them all down at once can’t even spot a fishing boat! It must be an American attempt to sabotage Japan!

The Aegis Weapons System is a Surface to AIR system. It is the system which recently shot down the satellite. These ships have surface search radar(s) at least 3 of them which should have detected it and probably did, it was just ignored by an inattentive crew. They also, if they are like the American Navy, have lookouts fore and aft that should have spotted the fishing boat.
