Earthquake Experience Vehicle

February 14th, 2008 by James

Nagano Prefecture has a new mobile earthquake simulation room. Here’s a news clip containing several demonstrations of large earthquakes:

Since the prefecture’s foreign-born population has increased significantly since Nagano’s last mobile earthquake vehicle was built 18 years ago, the new one has English, Chinese, and Portuguese narration options. According to the report, reservations to experience the simulator for free can be made through local fire stations.

Wow, that looks like fun! They should have a big mechanical catfish thrashing underneath the earthquake truck.

I hope they make the “Mt. Fuji erupts, launching hot, molten lava throughout the region” simulation truck next.

When I was about 5 years old, living in Yokota Air Force Base, I faintly remember one of these earthquake machines visiting my school (being a K to 8th grade school). Really cool to see it again!
