Survey: Chinese Manners
The following graph is one of the most-viewed photos today on Yahoo! Japan‘s news section:

It shows the results of a survey that asked Chinese people what manners they would most like to see improved in their country. The results are divided by city: orange for Shanghai, red for Beijing, and green for Guangzhou.
The results from left to right are translated as follows:
- spitting / hawking up phlegm
- waiting in/forming lines
- standing and urinating [in public]
- talking in a loud voice on the street
- driving
- getting in and out of elevators & trains
- talking on mobile phones while riding trains
- cheering at sporting events
Surveys about Japan previously translated on What Japan Thinks show some of these manner issues are problems for Japanese people [see: Worst Loud chat and naughty children biggest train annoyances, What makes Japanese men run a mile, and What makes Japanese women run a mile.] Hawking phlegm is also a pretty nasty problem here, myself having heard a very loud phlegm-hawking on the street this morning….
