Olympic Athletes to Sign Contracts Banning Criticism of Chinese Regime

The Daily Mail has reported that British athletes who want to compete in the Olympics will have to keep any negative opinions they have about the Chinese government to themselves:
British Olympic chiefs are to force athletes to sign a contract promising not to speak out about China’s appalling human rights record – or face being banned from travelling to Beijing.
The move – which raises the spectre of the order given to the England football team to give a Nazi salute in Berlin in 1938 – immediately provoked a storm of protest.
The controversial clause has been inserted into athletes’ contracts for the first time and forbids them from making any political comment about countries staging the Olympic Games.
The article goes on to mention that Belgium and New Zealand have similar rules banning athletes from sharing their political opinions, but several countries including the United States, Canada, Finland, and Australia – “have pledged that their athletes would be free to speak about any issue concerning China.”

this article doesn’t even mention japan
here’s some news for you:
Officials in Tokushima prefecture found small amounts of the insecticide dichlorvos on the wrapping of dumplings made in China between March and April of last year, the local government said in a posting on its Web site yesterday. The dumplings themselves WEREN’T contaminated, according to the report.

-I introduced this article so I could poll readers on their views about what course Japan should follow about athletes and their own personal opinions, and hopefully get some readers to have a good discussion about it.
-I already linked an article reporting that the packaging had insecticide on it. It has nothing to do with the Olympics, so I don’t know why you mentioned it here.
Typical Daily Wail nonsense – the clause forbids political demonstrations (in line with the IOC charter) and has nothing to do with voicing opinions.
Personally I think Japanese people should be able to say whatever they want on the matter as should everyone else WHO ISNT CHINESE!! Actually its so bad the Chinese people should be freed of it and have a say……but right now how relations in china are I think Japan should just keep it hush hush.
It would be nice if every country who marched in the opening ceremony to be holding banners reading Free Tibet.
