Shoplifter Arrested, Found to Be Carrying $90,000 in Cash!

January 21st, 2008 by James

A 53-year-old man was arrested in Kanagawa Prefecture the other day for stealing a canned drink [worth about $2.00] from a supermarket. When police searched his person, they made a startling discovery: he was carrying 9.6 million yen in cash [about $90,000]:

All of the cash was tightly packed within a haramaki (stomach protector) the man was wearing. He told police that he could not trust banks, so he protected his entire life’s savings by carrying it on his person at all times!

Where do you keep your savings?

Wait… does “on my person” make sense? Have I missed this my entire life?
