We stayed in the exact same area (in fact, I think I remember seeing the name of the hotel featured in this close by, and our hotel’s name was right under it on the book they showed) two weeks ago!

Well, this brings back memories

I stayed there twice, in Raizan. For the price, it’s not bad at all. And i noticed the presence of tourists there quite heavily this summer. In 2005 i spent little time there. For those that don’t like communal baths, they have private shower but the japanese style bath is wonderful nad everyone should try it. The transportation is awesome in the area. Train+subway, very convenient.

I stayed in august two weeks in Hotel Raizan south and that old guy from clip was there, he liked to talk about his life a lot. Have to say that the hotel was ok, the staff was helpfull eventhough they didn’t speak english and i was good place to meet other travellers. The homeless didn’t cause any trouble and the location is good when using train.

I stayed in that area in 2005 for 10 days and it was great for the price: single room for 1900 yen, clean and close to shin imamiya station on the loop line. If you go to osaka on a tight budget i would definitely recommend staying in that area.

And it’s right next to a huge stretch of restaurants and less than 5 minutes walking distance to Tsutenkaku.

I believe they got the french and italian flags mixed up at the beginning when they were interviewing tourists…lol
The french flag had blue, not green!

It’s also very convenient for transport, with a JR station (Shin-Imanomiya) and a subway station close by. Tennoji is one station from Shin-Imanomiya, which is convenient for Kansai airport (and if you have a JR Railpass, you can get the airport express train from Tennoji direct to Kyoto and back, which is very useful for day trips).

I’d certainly stay in the area again.

I just stayed at “Business Hotel Taiyo” over New Year’s. The area is definitely not the best of places, but it’s right near a huge outdoor mall with literally dozens and dozens of restaurants, and you can walk all the way to the tower and even to Nipponbashi with relative ease.

And if you’re female, the 9th women’s only floor was very nice. There were shared bathrooms, but the people were very clean and friendly.

I stayed at a cheap hotel in the district (Hotel Taiyo I think) for a week in 2002 (picture of room). While the area is not the most chic of locations, certainly has character and the people were generally very friendly.

i tried this hotel on march !
It was really clean, and its much better than some guest house who are too dirty ( orange or banana house ) !
The room was always clean, and the futon set was very nice !

The hotel was good, but the place is a bit strange especialy at night, i guess that why there is a curefew !

Prices are almost on par with some weekly mansion rates. Pretty cheap, though I’m not a fan of shared bathrooms…
