Uniform Thief Arrested

December 26th, 2007 by James

A 31 year-old man was recently caught breaking into a house in Aichi Prefecture. After his arrest, he admitted that he had committed about 100 previous break-ins of a similar nature. A search of his house revealed what he had been stealing: women’s underwear, schoolgirl uniforms, bathing suits, and school gym clothes. Over 550 items were confiscated from his house.

What is it in Japanese society that breeds so many underwear thieves? I’d venture to say there is an alarmingly high proportion of Japanese police/crime dramas that have at least one episode involving the hunt for an underwear thief.

And, my final question is, when do we get to see underwear thieves presented in US crime television shows? CSI: Clothesline. 24, Jack Bauer fights underwear terrorists. Law and Order, the episode with the panty marauder on trial.

I’ve read reports of underwear thieves in other countries as well. But I suppose those other stories don’t really make it on the news in those countries.

Gotta love Japan huh? They put it all out for the news like it was contraband from a drug bust or something! I bet Japanese police wouldn’t last a day as a cop in America.

It’s only reported on this much in Japan, and broadcast in entertainment to no end. If it’s chosen to be discussed at so much length in the country, the Japanese themselves probably consider it a major social problem.

I have a feeling this man has a behavier problem. Perhaps a obsessive behavier problem. Any way he should be locked up and keys thrown away.
