Chinese Cricket Fighting

December 23rd, 2007 by James

A very interesting clip of a TV show about the ancient Chinese tradition of cricket fighting:

Cricket fighting dates back to the Tang Dynasty, and apparently it’s still somewhat popular in China today. In the video we are shown a master trainer of cricket fighting champions who takes the tradition very seriously, investing large amounts of money towards finding the perfect cricket and training/feeding it to perfection. Villagers in the countryside often go hunting for strong-looking crickets, and bugs with especially strong pincers and legs are sometimes sold for as much as $1000!
