Yuri Morishita Lost 2 Million Yen in Nova Collapse

An article in Mainichi’s Japanese edition today mentions that gravure Idol Yuri Morishita [pictured above] admitted that she lost a huge sum of money when English conversation school chain Nova went bankrupt. She told reporters that she had bought 2 million yen [$17,800 US dollars] lesson package, but only had to the time to take 3 lessons before Nova collapsed. Much like thousands of other Nova students, she will get no refund for pre-paid lessons. Morishita said losing all that money has been the biggest shock of her life.

NOVA had a two-million yen package? Wow. Why would anyone spend that much upfront, I wonder. Still, I do feel for her. (Her and her apparently not-too-shock-heavy life.)

I’m sure she’ll find many volunteers to teach her!

Thats what I was thinking! Seriously though, if I knew my students were going to lose X amount of money and they had paid for lessons, I would still teach them. It would have to be like a setup time/day [like every Sunday], but I would still try my best to teach them all for maybe like one year. I know we wouldn’t have to, but I would do it anyways, why not.

I will teach her for free!
I bet she’s not nearly as upset as the guys who were looking forward to teaching her.

True, moderately clever jokes, but still funny.
As for recognizing her without makeup, not so many guys were looking that high, I’d assume.

Considerng Yuri-chan could probably make two million in just a couple of hours in front of a camera I doubt this is a major hardship.
I really wonder how the average Japanese person would be able to tell the difference between a stable and reliable school and a going-down-in-flames case like Nova, especially with Nova’s blanket advertising over the past few years.

Any ex Nova teachers here that can confirm that there really is something like a 2 million package? What the heck did she buy there? That money is worth more than half a year of tuition at Harvard or so.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t one of the major factors in Nova failing the fact that in June, they were forbidden from selling long-term contracts? Which means that if this story is true, then she bought the contract before June, which means that she took three lessons in five months. If that’s all she had “time” for, then I suspect the investment would not have been worth anything anyway. But heck, paying two million yen to Nova for lessons shows a rather stark lack of judgment anyway. The poor girl doesn’t seem to be pretending to be as ditzy as busty women are stereotyped as being.
