Imperial Family Artwork

Japan’s Imperial Household Agency put some artwork created by members of the Imperial Family on public display today. The piece of artwork that has gained the most media attention is a sculpture by Princess Aiko, the 6 year-old daughter of Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako. The princess created the sculpture after visiting a pig farm in Tochigi Prefecture earlier this year, and has named her creation buta-chan (“piggy”). Pretty cute, if you ask me.

Here’s a video of NTV new’s coverage of the exhibition, which also includes some footage of felt rabbits created by sisters Princess Kako and Princess Mako:

The rabbits are from a popular children’s book series. I had the English version for a class I taught a while ago. I’m glad to know that Guri and Gura and their egg thieving ways are being read buy the royal family.
