Pizza Hut Japan Has Created A Monster |

This is the ONLY thing I dislike about Japan. Tiny (as compared to American pizza) overpriced pizza. But, there is another way. PROTIP: Costco has big pizzas. Now if only there were ovens in Japanese households big enough to cook one of those….

A few months ago Pizza Hut introduced a series of similarly stuffed “roll”-style crusts, but I believe this shrimp-mayo combo is new. And while I am certainly willing to try it (after all, I do love shrimp and mayo in other things) my wife is very excited by this offer.
And yeah, for decent American-style pizza there is always Costco (or Slices down in Shinsaibashi) but I’ve learned to enjoy Japanese piza for what it is.

Personally it seemed pretty gross to me. Early in the video clip there was a picture of mayonaise coming out of the roll area and it looked like squeezing a giant zit.
It seems quite an eclectic mix of ingredients on the pizza though.

I’m pretty sure that’s “demi glace” sauce. Katakana can be so hard to translate. I prefer Aoki’s, but the Winter Special is looking tempting.

Eating pizza in Japan blows. I can’t wait to go home for Christmas in Chicago where I can get a decent deep dish pizza with REGULAR ingredients.

The Costcos in Japan serve almost identically similar pizzas as the ones in the US (and just has fattening). Shakey’s all you can eat is a bit closer to home, but why not try the local twist on Italian?
One of my favorite things about Japan is the Japanese-Italian food. It’s often derided by Westerners, but I actually ended up preferring a lot of it. The stuff is often quite different from the stuff you find in the US (with ingredients like ketchup-like sauce, corn in a lot of things, seafood on pizza, mayonnaises everywhere, tortilla-thin crusts, etc). Then again, a lot of American-Italian food is very different from the stuff you find in Italy. The pizza here MAY seem a tad “different” but hey, I say its probably tasty.
Japan is a food-lovers paradise, give it a try.

Let’s face it, Pizza Hut sucks, Domino’s sucks all chains suck.
I am lucky living in NYC where there are still a dozen or more choices for great pizza. And hundreds, maybe thousands, of choices for mediocre pizza.
I have found great pizza in Ireland, Portugal and even Florida, always in a mom and pop shop. Not gotten around to it in Japan, there’s too much good Japanese stuff that I haven’t had yet.
Go local and you will be rewarded.
