Blogger Arrested by South Korean Police

This doesn’t have anything to do with Japan, but the word needs to be spread about a major injustice that has befallen one of the Asia blogosphere’s finest:
Michael Hurt, an ethnic studies scholar who runs the blog Scribblings of the Metropolititican, has been arrested by South Korean police and charged with assault. He had called the police to report a drunken man whose shouting of racial slurs and insults were interfering with a photo shoot Hurt and his co-workers were conducting, but the police ended up siding with the drunk and arresting Hurt (despite witnesses who back Hurt’s side of the story). Hurt has blogged about the incident, including photos of his police station experience and an audio recording of the drunkard’s racist ramblings.
I wish Michael the best of luck with this situation and hope that his name is cleared.
