Actor Akira Akasaka: Some Gaijin Sold Me Drugs

November 22nd, 2007 by James

TV Capture [The audio said "gaijin," the subtitle "gaikokujin."]

The sentencing of actor Akira Akasaka for drug-related charges was a big story yesterday, and one has to wonder if the new immigration system might have received a little more coverage if this celebrity scandal hadn’t occurred. Not having been a fan of Akasaka, the exhaustive attention given to his sentencing was pretty boring for me. The only interesting aspect of the story for me was the mention of a foreigner:

Akasaka was caught possessing 0.7 grams of stimulants on a street in the Ikebukuro district of downtown Tokyo in the predawn hours of Oct. 28, according to the ruling.

Akasaka made his show business debut in the late 1980s as a member of Hikaru Genji, a popular teenage singing group on roller skates. He said he purchased the drugs from a foreigner.

Isn’t that what you always do when you get busted for drugs to protect your dealer? You say that you bought it of some arab/turkish/black/whatever (depending on where you live in the world) guy on the street because you know the cops will probably believe you if you say something along those lines.

Oh wait, shit, I’m in Japan! What am I supposed to say?
“It’s OK, I was just selling them to actors”?

i don’t know why it should be a surprise… after all, how many drugs are actually produced in japan anyway? very few i would imagine, apart from a little midnight gardening here and there. cocaine tends to come from south america, heroin from asia, etc. etc. i think it would be foolish to imagine that foreigners control importation/distribution, however. ever heard of the yakuza? it’s quite well known that they control the amphetamines trade in this country, and i doubt that is the only pie they have their fingers in

Reminds me of my major alchoholic uncle who showed up at Christmas with a big black eye/face. “A bunch of black guys mugged me.”
Yeah, well maybe, whatever.

Gaijin or Gaikokujin will bring everything bad to japan, it’s cast to us from the second we put our foot on Japanese soil. So really….whatever…
