Crazy Scissor Lady

November 15th, 2007 by James

When one restaurant owner found that somebody was repeatedly vandalizing the noren curtain at her shop’s front entrance, she set up a security camera to catch the criminal:

Not even a plainly visible security camera with a big “Warning: Security Camera” sign could stop the vandal, who turned out to be a 75 year-old woman that lived behind the store. Despite overwhelming video evidence, the woman continues to claim she would never do such a vulgar thing!

It’s awesome how she so nonchalantly walks up to the noren to cut it, like it’s part of her nightly routine or something.
And if you watch closely at about the -1:06 mark she kind of glances up at the camera as if saying “Yeah, it’s me. What are you going to do about it?”
That must be some grudge she’s got going against them.

So, I don’t understand. Is there nothing the police can do about this? This seems clearly illegal to me.

That’s why she was arrested, on the charge of destruction of property. The shop owner is worried that she’ll just start again when she’s released.

The video said she was arrested.

And clearly, if my Japanese was good enough to understand the video I wouldn’t have needed to ask that question.

I thought James would have mentioned that part.

I have a nagging sensation that they won’t do too much about it until she confesses. Then again, the Japanese police can be very persuasive.

It’s still beyond freaky… the way she calmly, meticulously cuts into the curtain like there could be nothing more normal in the world. She probably would have stabbed anyone who approached her with the same expression on her face.

Well, she does live behind it. Maybe there was something about the place she didn’t like, living so close. Though it’s funny how much this video makes her look psycho.
